A note from Daniel

One reason people are so susceptible to misleading but resonant analogies is the human tendency to jump to conclusions. As Daniel Kahneman notes in Thinking Fast and Slow, our normal state of mind is to make snap judgments; we trust or distrust strangers without knowing why, and we just "know" that a business is going to succeed or fail without even analyzing it. "Whether you state them or not," Kahneman writes, "you often have answers to questions that you do not completely understand, relying on evidence that you can neither explain nor defend."
