Free tools

Free tools for readers

Small, useful things we built for people who read. No signup, no email, no upload. The Goodreads tools run entirely in your browser, so your library never leaves your laptop.

Nothing is uploaded. Nothing is stored.

Leaving Goodreads?

The two Goodreads tools above pair with our written guides. Start with how to export your Goodreads library, then read how to move your data to a new reading app. If you are still choosing where to land, we compared the options in Goodreads alternatives and the best book tracking apps.

booksense imports your Goodreads library directly, keeping your ratings, reviews and dates, and backdating finished books so the import lands as history instead of flooding your feed. See everything the app does.

One file, two minutes goodreads_library_export.csv seeds every tool on this page, and the app. Import into booksense

Questions about these tools

Are these reading tools really free?

Yes. Every tool here is free, with no signup, no account and no email capture. They exist because we make booksense, a free reading app for iOS, and anything that helps people find and finish books is worth building.

Do I have to upload my Goodreads library anywhere?

No. The Goodreads tools parse your export inside your own browser. The file is read locally and never sent to a server, which is the whole reason we built them this way. You can turn off your wifi after the page loads and they still work.

Do I need booksense to use these?

Not at all. Each tool stands on its own and works without an account. If you do want your stats to keep updating without re-exporting anything, booksense is free on iOS and imports your Goodreads library directly.

Where do I get my Goodreads export file?

From Goodreads, go to My Books, then Import and Export, then Export Library. Goodreads emails you a goodreads_library_export.csv file. Our step-by-step guide walks through it with screenshots if you get stuck.

A CSV goes stale the moment you export it. booksense keeps the same numbers moving on their own: session timer, streaks, goals and per-book stats. Free on iPhone and iPad. Download for free
