A note from Daniel

Today's corporate social networks are designed as thick networks. Almost all the value flows to the networks themselves—Facebook, TikTok, Twitter, and others. To the extent there is innovation, it involves startups trying to build competing social networks, rather than building businesses on top. In other words, startups have to build entirely new, proprietary roads in order to support new cities on top, instead of simply building on top of preexisting public roads. Social networks squeezed the balloon in a way that stifles innovation.
