Even so, after the company has missed the benchmarks a few months later, Conway often gets pushback. One of the most common ways that the founders push back is by claiming that they have a duty to the investors to give it everything they have. Beyond that duty, they believe that if they don't keep going, instead returning the remaining capital, their backers will think less of them, view them as a failure, and never want to invest in anything they do in the future.
