Keeping extra distance between cars when you’re on the freeway at high speeds, allows you to keep options open for whatever might happen (like in case someone unexpectedly veers into your lane or stops abruptly). This is the same reason you should wait as long as possible when making an important decision. You want to give yourself as many options in the future so that if something changes, you have the space to maneuver and reposition yourself along the path of greatest opportunity.

When bad times come, and they always do, their options go from good to great. On the other hand, a company with no cash and high debt has nothing but bad options to choose from.
