the trick is to look closer—to segment the hard side of the network and figure out who is being underserved. The idea is to start with these underserved segments—whose users may not be very attractive customers on their own—and to apply Clayton Christensen's disruption theory: New products often disrupt markets by starting on the low end, providing "good enough" functionality, and growing from there into the medium, and eventually into the core market of the incumbents.
