I recommend reading The 5 Love Languages: The Secret to Love That Lasts by Gary Chap-man. It's phenomenal. The five love languages are the ways in which we give and receive love. They are: Quality Time, Words of Affirma-tion, Gifts, Acts of Service, and Physical Touch. In relationships, forget about the Golden Rule. Replace "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you" with "Do unto others the way they want to be treated." It's applicable to business, family, and friends.

Because the numbers are in plain view, performers feel recognized just as nonperformers feel uncomfortable. If the latter feel too uncomfortable, all the better; they will either up their game to avoid further embarrassment or leave the company. Transparency is the ultimate performance-enhancing drug. And when it doesn't work to motivate your poor performers, they will weed themselves out—which is exactly what you want.

You must create manuals (video libraries may be more effective than printed ones). You must codify your knowledge. If it exists only in your head, you have a job to do. If you want to have a sustainable business, codify what you know and make sure it gets transferred to everyone else in your organization.
