You can avoid this confusion by using the mastery path tool (Chapter 6) along with job stories (Chapter 5) to map out your customers' personal progression path. From there, think carefully about what kind of social engagement would motivate your customers. Don't assume that everyone loves to compete. While leaderboards and head-to-head battles can be highly motivating for some people, others are put off by zero-sum mechanics and prefer "winning together" within cooperative play.
