This phase, "The Ceiling," is what happens as products bump against an ongoing range of problems—when growth stalls, network effects weaken, and hard decisions must be made. It happens for a variety of reasons, including market saturation, degradation of marketing channels, overcrowding, spam, and so on. No wonder large, scaled networked apps end up employing large teams to fight these negative dynamics products don't just hit one ceiling, they bump up against plateaus over time.
