A note from Daniel

LinkedIn is just one example—of course, invite mechanics aren't unique to it, and invites have become part of the standard playbook for bringing new products to market. Famously, Facebook initially required a harvard.edu email address to sign up, both defining an atomic network where everyone trusted each other, and also providing an explicit way to think about school-by-school launches. Years later, Slack would employ a similar tactic, using corporate email domains as the way to define who should join what network.
