A habit loop, is an operant conditioning loop built around cues, routines, and rewards. Although it looks like a tempting solution, operant conditioning techniques will give you a short-term lift, but will never lead to player delight, deep learning, or true long-term engagement. For that, you need skill-building, the exact thing that's missing from a habit loop.
