A note from Daniel

“Sales” are the total dollars the business took in from selling whatever widgets and digits it sells. Your kids' lemonade stand sold $300 of lemonade. That's the sales number. Simple enough. Sometimes sales is referred to as the "top line" (number) because it's located on the top line in financial reports about the business (specifically, on the income statement).
