A note from Daniel

Over Optimizing Your Valuation: Experienced startup founders learn to accept valuations that are "within range" of the value they are seeking. Spending too much time trying to negotiate the highest possible valuation with investors wastes time and can indicate an inexperienced founder. Higher valuations translate into less founder dilution, but many other factors have a bigger influence on the overall outcome of the startup, such as proving customers care about your products. Giving up a few additional percentage points of ownership to close an investment deal and get back to the business of the startup is usually the best move.
