When the gap between where you are and where you want to be seems too large, we get pulled towards hacks and shortcuts in an effort to cover ground quickly. Of course, this doesn't work and only leaves us more frustrated and further behind. The problem is focusing your attention on the outcome, which is something you don't control. Sure, the outcome is sexy and shiny, and the process is boring in contrast. The process is a lot of work without recognition or rewards. It's a lot of early mornings and late nights. It's a lot of mistakes, false starts, and learning by doing. The process is expensive. It costs you time. It costs you money. It's humbling. It forces you to confront your fears.
