It's uncomfortable to think that what you haven't experienced might change what you believe, because it's admitting your own ignorance. It's much easier to assume that those who disagree with you aren't thinking as hard as you are.
We can see and measure just about everything in the world except people's moods, fears, hopes, grudges, goals, triggers, and expectations. That's partly why history is such a continuous chain of baffling events, and always will be.
If the reps don't hurt when you're exercising, you're not really exercising. Pain is the sign of progress that tells you you're paying the unavoidable cost of admission.
